As part of the activities carried out by the Faculty of Engineering of the Autonomous University of San Luis Potosí (UASLP), aimed at enriching knowledge and students' perspective on the world, the conference titled: "Robotics and Autonomous Systems for Space" was presented, given by Dr. Issa Nesnas, associate director at the Center for Autonomous Systems and Technologies at Caltech, and the team of NASA Autonomous Systems.
Before an audience full of students of engineering and other disciplines, the eminent scientist addressed space exploration and its challenges, sharing his vision on the topic and its relevance today. He also highlighted the importance of understanding why space is explored.
Dr. Nesnas presented interesting ideas in development, prototypes and field tests that are being worked on in the field of space exploration. These topics were inspiring to the students, motivating them to think about how to address the exciting challenges that space presents.
In an interview, Dr. Issa AD Nesnas highlighted the numerous opportunities that UASLP offers its students and emphasized the importance of thinking big. He urged students not to put limits on their aspirations and to seize opportunities, remembering that the sky is the limit.
Dr. Nesnas stressed that the fear of failure should not be an obstacle, since we learn more from failures than from successes. He emphasized that any student, whether from UASLP or other universities, has the potential to achieve their goals. He emphasized that resources are a challenge around the world, even in the United States and even with NASA's limited resources, because there are more ideas than resources.
The most important thing, he noted, is passion and determination. Although luck can play an important role, people's perseverance will lead them to overcome any obstacle in their path.
Dr. Nesnas also highlighted the importance of continuing education, both in engineering and in any other area. He stressed that thoroughly understanding the fundamentals of the career is essential to further advancement, especially in the challenging environment of space.
Dr. Issa Nesnas's lecture at UASLP offered students an inspiring view of space exploration, high‐lighting the importance of thinking big, learning from failures and seizing opportunities in a world where limits are just barriers that can be overcome. They can overcome with determination and passion.
